Smoking and nicotine can raise RBC and WBC and 2 more markers on this test and can lower HDL Cholesterol — tell the clinician; a high hematocrit in a smoker is usually smoking, not polycythemia. Alcohol can raise Triglycerides, ALT and MCV and can shift Glucose — no alcohol for 24–72 hours before a lipid panel.
