This test measures both total PSA and the percentage of free (unbound) PSA. The ratio of free to total PSA can help distinguish between prostate cancer and benign conditions like BPH. A lower percentage of free PSA is associated with a higher probability of prostate cancer. This test is particularly useful when total PSA falls in the 'gray zone' of 4–10 ng/mL.
