CA-125 is a protein found on the surface of ovarian cancer cells and some normal tissues. Elevated levels can indicate ovarian cancer, especially in postmenopausal women. It is primarily used to monitor treatment response and recurrence rather than initial screening in the general population. CA-125 can also be elevated in endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, liver disease, and during menstruation or pregnancy.
