CA-125 is a protein found on the surface of ovarian cancer cells and some normal tissues. Elevated levels can indicate ovarian cancer, especially in postmenopausal women. It is primarily used to monitor treatment response and recurrence rather than initial screening in the general population. CA-125 can also be elevated in endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, liver disease, and during menstruation or pregnancy.
Cancer Antigen 125 — a protein elevated in ~80% of ovarian cancers. Used for monitoring known ovarian cancer treatment response and surveillance, NOT recommended as a general screening test in average-risk women.
Women already diagnosed with ovarian cancer (monitoring treatment + recurrence), BRCA1/2 mutation carriers (selective screening), women with persistent pelvic mass on imaging to help stratify malignancy risk. NOT recommended for asymptomatic average-risk screening.
