Prothrombin Time (PT) measures how long it takes blood to clot. The INR (International Normalized Ratio) standardizes the result so it can be compared regardless of the testing method. This test is primarily used to monitor patients taking Warfarin (Coumadin) or other vitamin K antagonist anticoagulants, and to evaluate unexplained bleeding or clotting disorders.
