The Blood Clotting Panel evaluates both inherited and acquired factors that influence your blood's tendency to clot. Prothrombin Time with INR measures how quickly your blood clots — essential for anyone on blood thinners or with a history of clotting problems. Factor V Leiden tests for the most common inherited clotting disorder. Fibrinogen assesses both clotting capacity and inflammation. The CBC with Differential evaluates platelet count and other blood cell parameters. This panel is recommended for anyone with a personal or family history of blood clots, DVT, pulmonary embolism, stroke, or recurrent pregnancy loss.

Smoking and nicotine, recent blood donation and alcohol can change a Blood Clotting Panel result without anything being wrong. Smoking and nicotine can raise RBC and WBC — tell the clinician; a high hematocrit in a smoker is usually smoking, not polycythemia. Recent blood donation can lower RBC and can shift MCV — wait 6–8 weeks after a whole-blood donation for an anemia baseline. Alcohol can raise MCV — reflects long-term intake; not a one-night effect.
