Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is an enzyme found in nearly all body tissues, including blood cells, heart, kidneys, lungs, liver, and muscles. When cells are damaged or destroyed, LDH is released into the bloodstream. Elevated LDH is a nonspecific marker that can indicate hemolytic anemia, liver disease, heart attack, muscle injury, some cancers (especially lymphoma), and severe infections. It is often used as a general indicator of tissue damage and to monitor treatment response in cancer patients. Because it is nonspecific, abnormal results are typically followed by more targeted testing.
General health testing provides a baseline snapshot of organ function, metabolism, and key biomarkers — useful for annual checkups, preventive care, and tracking changes over time.
Adults wanting a routine wellness baseline, anyone re-engaging with healthcare after a gap, and people tracking the impact of lifestyle or medication changes.
