When is TestWell not the right choice?
Every service here has real limits, including ours. Skip TestWell — and consider Ulta Lab Tests or another option — if any of these apply to you.
- You want a clinician consult included. A licensed physician authorizes every TestWell order, but that review is not a visit — there is no call to walk through results unless you bring them to your own provider.
- You can't get to a draw site. TestWell is venous-draw only at Quest, Labcorp and BioReference locations; we don't ship at-home finger-prick kits.
- You live in Rhode Island — we can't serve it yet. New York and New Jersey orders route to BioReference locations only, which means fewer draw sites than Quest or Labcorp offer elsewhere.
- You need insurance billed. TestWell is cash-pay; HSA/FSA cards work and every order gets an itemized receipt, but we don't file claims.
- You need a specialty assay outside our catalog (~150 tests and 60+ panels). The big marketplaces list 1,000–2,000 SKUs; we deliberately don't.

Are TestWell and Ulta Lab Tests using the same labs?
When the lab partner is the same (Quest or Labcorp), the actual analysis is identical — same machines, same reference ranges, same CLIA-certified facility. The differences are price, ordering experience, and what's included.
Can I switch from Ulta Lab Tests to TestWell mid-year?
Yes. Lab tests aren't subscriptions you have to cancel — each order stands alone. If you've already paid for a year of Ulta Lab Tests, use what you've paid for, and order any additional tests through TestWell.
Will my doctor accept TestWell results?
Yes. Your results are CLIA-certified lab results from Quest or Labcorp — the same labs your doctor uses. You can download a PDF and bring it to any provider.
Is Ulta Lab Tests cheaper than TestWell?
On sticker price, usually yes — Ulta lists TSH, a lipid panel, a CMP and a CBC at $22.95 each. But Ulta adds a $12.95 specimen-collection fee to every order, while TestWell adds a $6 lab processing fee. For a single test the all-in totals are close (TSH: $35.90 at Ulta vs $32.99 at TestWell). Put two or more tests on one Ulta order and their per-order fee spreads out, so Ulta usually comes out cheaper for bundles of individual tests. Compare the total at checkout, not the line item.
Does Ulta Lab Tests work in New York or New Jersey?
No. Ulta's FAQ states it can't serve residents of New York, New Jersey or Rhode Island. TestWell serves New York and New Jersey by routing those orders to BioReference Laboratories; Rhode Island isn't available through either service.
