This test measures varicella-zoster virus (VZV) IgG antibodies at Quest and reports the result as a numeric antibody index (a signal-to-cutoff ratio) with the lab's interpretation — an index of 1.00 or higher is positive, meaning immunity from prior chickenpox or vaccination. That number is what nursing, EMT, paramedic, and other allied-health programs mean when a health form says the varicella titer must "show values" or be "quantitative"; a report that only says Reactive gets sent back. Our standard Chickenpox (Varicella) Immunity Test ($32.99, Labcorp) reports Reactive/Non-Reactive with no number, so order this version when your form asks for a value. One caveat that applies to every commercial varicella IgG assay: antibody levels after vaccination run lower than after natural infection, so a vaccinated person can occasionally test below the cutoff despite being protected. Programs almost always accept a varicella booster in that case.
Semi-quantitative varicella-zoster virus (VZV) IgG (CPT 86787) reported as a numeric antibody index with interpretation. Documents immunity from prior infection or vaccination for clinical-program, employment, and prenatal requirements that call for a titer value rather than a qualitative result.
Nursing, EMT/paramedic, medical, dental, PA, and other allied-health students whose program form requires a varicella titer "with values"; healthcare hires whose occupational-health office wants a numeric titer; anyone re-checking immunity after a varicella booster.
