## Frequently asked questions

### Where do the Quest and Labcorp prices come from?

From each lab's own direct-to-consumer site — Quest Health (questhealth.com) and Labcorp OnDemand (ondemand.labcorp.com). A script reads the list price from the public product page and records the date; every price in the checker links to the page it came from. Those are consumer cash prices, not what the labs bill insurers or charge through a doctor's order.

### Why do some tests show only a TestWell price?

The labs' consumer sites sell a fraction of their catalogs — Quest Health about 170 products, Labcorp OnDemand about 140 — so many single markers and specialty tests have no consumer list price to compare against. The checker shows a lab price only when the same test (or a documented equivalent, with the difference noted) is sold there.

### What does the hospital figure mean?

A typical hospital outpatient self-pay charge for the same test, kept as a reference point. Hospital prices vary widely by facility and are often higher; the figure is labelled as a reference and is not read from any single hospital's price file.

### Can I link to or embed a result?

Yes. Each result has a permanent URL (the test slug in the address bar) that you can share or cite; the numbers on it update automatically when prices are re-checked. Data on the companion price-list pages is CC BY 4.0 — cite TestWell and link back.
